Beat the Number, Beat the Books
Every play is a spot where our ratings put the game somewhere different from the sportsbook's number. Picks lock before the game starts and are never edited, so the record you see is the record we had.
This week's slate
Locked before game start
Each pick is stamped at the closing line before the game starts. Nothing is added or changed after.
Every result counts
Wins, losses and pushes all stay on the record, graded against the line we published.
Scored in units
Every play is sized to win one unit (risk 1.1 at −110); plus-money plays risk one unit. Spreads at −110 need 52.4% to break even, and the record shows how far above or below that we are.

Not financial or betting advice
Everything on Diesel’s Bookbreaker (picks, leans, projections, grades, “EV”, records, systems, props and every other number) is for entertainment and informational purposes only. It is the output of a statistical model and our opinion. It is not financial, investment, legal or betting advice, and it is not a recommendation that you place any wager. You alone decide whether to bet, and you alone are responsible for those decisions and their results.
No guarantees
- Sports betting involves real risk. You can lose money, including more than you planned. No pick, model or system wins every time.
- Past results do not guarantee future results. A winning record over any stretch can be luck.
- Backtest figures show how the current model would have done on past games. They are not real bets. The record includes the backtest of the weeks before picks went live (CFB Weeks 0–3, NFL Weeks 1–2), re-run using only information from before each game and marked “Backtest” in the pick log.
- The site is in a testing period. While testing, records and past picks may be re-run when the model changes; every change is logged. Once the testing period ends, published picks are locked and never edited.
- Lines, odds and injury news change constantly. Numbers shown here may be out of date or wrong. Always check the current line with your sportsbook before acting.
- Data comes from third-party sources and may contain errors or delays. The site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind.
Age and location
This site is intended only for adults 21 or older (or the legal gambling age where you live, if higher). Sports betting is legal only in some states and countries. It is your responsibility to know and follow the laws where you are. Nothing here is an offer or solicitation to gamble where it is illegal.
We are not a sportsbook
Diesel’s Bookbreaker does not accept, place or handle wagers and does not hold anyone’s money. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any sportsbook, league, conference, team or player. Team and league names are used only to identify games; all trademarks belong to their owners. We currently receive no payment from sportsbooks; if that ever changes, any affiliate links will be clearly disclosed.
Bet responsibly
- Only bet money you can afford to lose. Set a budget and a time limit before you start, and stick to them.
- Never chase losses or bet to win back money you’ve lost.
- Don’t bet with borrowed money, money for bills, or while drinking or upset.
- Use your sportsbook’s deposit, wager and time limits, cool-off periods and self-exclusion. Most states also run a self-exclusion program.
- Warning signs: betting more to get the same excitement, hiding bets from people close to you, borrowing to gamble, or feeling restless when you try to stop. If any of these sound familiar, call 1-800-MY-RESET.
- Support for family and friends: Gam-Anon. Peer support: Gamblers Anonymous.

Full season
TESTINGThe record above by week and grade: early weeks re-run using only the ratings available before each game, plus the live picks since.
How the record is kept
Live means locked. A live pick counts only if it was published before the game started. CFB Week 4 and NFL Week 3 are the first live weeks. The weeks before them (CFB Weeks 0–3, NFL Weeks 1–2) are a backtest: today's model re-run using only the ratings and lines available before each game, marked “Backtest” in the pick log.
Units. Every play is sized to win one unit at minus odds (at −110 that's 1.1 units risked to win 1) and risks one unit at plus odds (at +150 that's 1 unit risked to win 1.5). Spreads and totals are scored at −110; moneylines at the price listed with the pick.
Break-even. At −110 a bettor needs to win 52.4% of decided bets to break even. Pushes return the stake and don't count toward win %.
ROI. Units won divided by units risked, across every graded play (a push returns its stake).
